I find it interesting that I keep finding photos I have taken before and then turning them into something completely different. Ultimately, I have been exploring my artistic style and utilizing photoshop to play around with different tools. I have found myself utilizing the selective color and black and white tool a lot lately because I have started to like that the subject is in color and my background is in black and white. As you can tell I did a lot of manipulation, I started off with the crop and essentially getting rid of my copyright logo. Next I went into the camera raw filter and toned down the highlights and increased my contrast. Finally I did the quick select tool and selected my subject then inverting it and selecting the black and white tool. The result was the photo on the left, and a stunning image. I also did this with a studio portrait and was not disappointed, this photo happens to be one of my favorite photos I have shot and edited so far. The makeup is more of a prop to shock the viewer, and when many see this photo I get a shocked reaction along with a, "Are you okay?" I laugh it off and say yes and explain to them the concept. My original idea for this photo was to be part of a series I was going to call "7 Deadly Sins" but that project never saw the light of day because the other 6 photos did not come out as planned. This photo however, struck my interest and I decided to get creative. In order for me to preserve the red in the photo I ended up going into the color select tool and going in each individual color and turning all the colors except red into monotone. This project took many hours due to me attempting to figure out how the make everything but red go monotone. I started with using the quick select tool but that took forever and I didn't get the preciseness I needed. Then the idea to use the color select tool struck my mind to make the reds darker then I accidentally turned the red into grey and I ultimately decided to leave the red alone and manipulate the other colors.
I love finding old photos and turning them into something new. you might find something that may come out better than you originally edited.
